Where do you work and what makes your role awesome?
Northwestern Mutual. Besides working with cool, new technologies, I am part of the digital shift Northwestern Mutual is making right now and the project I am on is helping pave the way. I like to say I break the old rules to find more efficient ways of working. It is a very exciting time to be at the company.

How long have you lived in MKE & what brought you here?
I grew up in Grafton, went to college at UW – Eau Claire and then spent 8 years in Madison. After having kids, my husband and I wanted to get back to our families and our ‘home’.

What do you love most about MKE?
I love the German heritage that is woven throughout the city. My family is German, so I grew up going to all the fests and polka dancing my little feet off. I think it adds unique flare to our city as well.

What is something that is missing from our community that you would love to see implemented?
A giant farmer’s market that goes around a block. After living in Madison for so many years, I do miss going to the farmer’s market on Capitol Square.

What is one word that you would use to describe MKE?

Where do you see MKE in 5 years?
There is a lot of new construction in the city, so I hope it starts to draw more businesses and people to the area. Growth and expansion would be nice. Maybe we can become the Midwestern tech hub!

If you could create one thing in MKE, what would it be?
A larger tech community with a wider range of technical opportunities. Milwaukee has its hidden pockets of technical diversity, but there isn’t much. I do see larger companies starting to change out their old tech for new tech, so I’m hoping that continues and in turn will expand Milwaukee tech.

What local restaurant is at the top of your list?
There are so many to choose from and so many I still need to try. Stilt House in Cedarburg – love the food and love the wide variety of drinks they have. I also should mention Lost Valley Cider bar. I enjoy a good cider so I was thrilled when Lost Valley opened.

What is your biggest hope for this city?
I hope this city keeps its Midwestern nice.

What is your favorite MKE tradition?
Tailgating for Brewer games.

What does your ideal MKE weekend look like?
If it’s warm, getting out and exploring the parks or festivals. The closer to the lake the better. In cold weather, going to one of the many fun museums the city offers or just being a true Wisconsinite and bundling the family up for a walk around the zoo.

What neighborhood do you live in and why do you love it?
Cedarburg – we live in the country, so I get my city-by-day and country-by-night life. It’s a nice community that always has something going on. I also love all the unique shops and numerous coffee shops that are minutes away to enjoy.

What’s your favorite hidden gem or secret fact about the city?
The lakefront. One of my favorite parks to visit is the Lion’s Den in Grafton. Breath taking views of the lake from the bluffs.

What do you think is going to be a game changer for the city in the year of 2017?
Bucks arena, new high rises – downtown is getting a face lift and I hope it will draw more attention to the city and the growth that is happening.
