A week in the life of a young professional: Sunday

Blog By Jimmy

It all starts right here and you find yourself with two choices:

Option One: You plan on sleeping until at least noon and while you had every intention of doing so, you’re wide awake by 8 am. That’s okay, because you have all morning to nurse the hangover you most likely have from the night before. You go grocery shopping, do your laundry and try to convince yourself the weekend isn’t already over. Despite your best efforts, Monday morning hangs over everything you do. With the Bulls – Heat game on in the background, you prep a to do list for the work week, surf the net for a while and go to bed.

Option Two: You get brunch at the Comet Café and end up having a Sunday Funday because that first Bloody Mary went down just a bit too well.

To be continued….

The Quest for the Perfect Patio

Author: Meghan Welch

Despite the fact that the weather in Milwaukee has been less than stellar for, oh I don’t know, eight months, as of April 6th, I made the firm decision that spring had arrived and I’d no longer be acknowledging winter or cold. It’s spring, dammit, and that means outdoor happy hours must commence.

To that end, my friends and I have resumed our tradition of Friday night happy hours in which we wander the city, trying out new bars, new drinks and new patios. Last week, we descended upon Hotel Foster on North Ave. to soak up a few minutes of sun before the fog rolled in.

Hotel Foster is interesting…. they make a good drinks and the beer is cheap, but the bar is definitely different. I couldn’t get over the strange smell and most of my friends were less than impressed.

That said, when the sun out is out, it’s a Friday afternoon and you’re surrounded by good friends, who cares where you are? Life is good. And spring is here.

Shamrock Shindig… The Recap

By Graham Baxter

On Saturday, March 12th Newaukee held it’s 2nd Annual Shamrock Shindig, taking over Water Street with more than than 3,000 party people. Every establishment entertained capacity crowds from start to finish and the green beer was-a-flowing. As the Shindig rolled on, go-go dancers were sighted getting down in Red Rock, McGillys, Bar Louie. It’s tough to paint a picture of what it was like without actually being there, but inflatable leprechauns we being body passed, bag pipers were pounding out tunes in kilts, Elmo was on the mechanic bull, cats and dogs were living together… Chaos.

The after party quickly filled into Bar Louie. Hosted by DJ Kid Cutup, Bar Louie showcased Go-Go Dancers and a green balloon drop…… energy was high all night long. Overall, the Shindig went off without a hitch. Everybody had a great time, it brought business to some of our favorite local establishments, and most importantly everybody made it home safely.

Looking forward to bigger and better things to come on Water Street next year!

Stale Chips

After an exceptionally long day at the office, I run some errands, and finally make my way home.  Exhausted and famished, I kick off my shoes and take a seat on the couch.  My stomach is growling, but I just want to relax.  I log on to my computer to check for new emails within the last hour and update my Facebook status.  Finally deciding to feed the hunger, I walk to the kitchen to find my leftover tuna salad as the only item ready for consumption.  Reluctantly, I dig deep with my fork and throw in some stale tortilla chips on the side.  But to my delight, I turn ESPN on to the sweet sounds of college basketball (Big Ten to be exact).  I forgot just how soothing the swish of the net can be…

If you’re a fan like me, then your best bet this Thursday is to head down to Replay Sports Bar for all the action, college or pro; football, hockey, etc. on one of their many flatscreens.  Bring a canned good – it’s for a great cause and if you bring five, you get a FREE drink!

Oh yeah, their food makes for much-better leftovers, too!
